Was recently promoted to lead the release management process for my project. This project will push my career to new heights
It’s the biggest implementation of the SABA learning management system in the world! With this upcoming release, not only is the system opened to internal HP employees, even external customers will soon be able to use it. Being one of the few revenue generating projects by HP HRIT, it has generated a lot of visibility. I’m flattered to be chosen to lead the delivery and release process of this system
As someone who’s been heavily involved in the technical aspect of this project (infrastructure team), I’m well aware of what it takes/needs. That said, I can’t stand incompetencies.
For the last 2 weeks, I’ve been teaching the co worker of mine nothing but the basics. Its irritating… its frustrating.. and its such a waste of time. He’s been on this project since last yr Nov and yet he has not learn much. I have to spoon feed him and guide him in everything he does. I don’t blame him if he does not understand how the system works. Its a huge and complex system but when you don’t even know your basics, I say… get out of the project. You… are clearly not suitable for this project.. and I can’t stand your incompetencies!
But its still ok.. cos I’m in the holiday mood now
I was kinda promoted recently. To take on more job responsibility. Used to be the one performing all the task, but now I’m the one managing the task. Thought it was gonna be easy but turns out, its even more tedious than I thought. Having to come up with proper processes, making sure people stick to it, chasing other teams to provide my team with the tools they need, validating infrastructure setup to make sure its up to par with the standards my team required and every once in a while, being a consultant to my previous team lead and his team
All in a day’s work. While I’m slowly losing touch of my technical domain, its giving me a very strong foundation on the business domain. Now I just have to decide which is better. I still kinda like technical more than domain though.. maybe I’m just a geek.
In this new position, I’ve learned to be more assertive, to be confident of my work, and to learn how to manage my schedule/deadline better. Being the liaison between the business team and my development team has made me more aware of the technical difficulties faced by my team. I believe my infrastructure background has equipped me with the right skill set I need to do this job well
This will definitely make my resume, a more impressive one. Once that’s done, I will apply for a job out of SG. I can’t wait..
End of this month is going to be so much fun. I’ve calculated and my trip will cost about minimum of 4k per person. Yeap! My most expensive trip ever. Well.. the US trip last yr cost me 8.5k but that was paid fully by my company
I cringe at the thought of spending that much money for just a 10 days trip, but then again, its less than my 1 mths pay so y not. I can easily earn back the money but the experience will be priceless. And now that I can afford it, my stay in Melbourne will be extravagant
Counting down the days… 20 more left to go…
