Primary 6 class reunion

Filed under: General — Mulyadi @ 3:25 am

Just got back from a primary 6 class reunion. Although only 5 people includong myself who managed to made it, it was still a fun event. We were only 12 then so that makes it bout 10 years ago that we were in the same class. Thos who made it were myself, Siwah, Kok Siong, Liwei and Terrence.

Met up at the hawker centre opposite Beauty World for dinner and then then it was off for a late night bowling game at Chevron. Terrence had something on after that and thus could not join us. Lucky Siwah was driving so transport was well taken care off. It was a bit embarassing though since the 3 guys in the car had no driving license and was being driven around by a girl. She even sent us home too.

The game went quite well. The lanes were in very good condition. One of the best bowling alley I’ve ever been to. Hopefully, the next reunion, more poeple can come.

Session Woes

Filed under: General, Programming — Mulyadi @ 2:46 am

Been very busy for my upcoming project. Omkar and myself are developing a website. Being incharge of the login modules, I have to make sure that it works.

There are currently 2 methods available for use for a login module. Basically, both methods just makes sure that the web page can remember the user for the time he spends on the website. For example, after a user login, the site is suppose to know that he has login and makes available to him all the advance features. To be able to do this, the site must be able to remember the user so that no matter which page he goes to, he is recognised as the logged in user.

One way is to use Session variables. After a person logs in, a unique code is generated and this code is added to the end of every page he goes to. The website on the other hand will scan to see if this unique code is available. If it is, that means that the user has logged in.

The other method is to use cookies. This will copy a file, or cookie into the user’s computer. This cookie will contain a unique code generated by the website. The site will now scan the user’s hard disk for this cookie and if it exist, means the user is has logged in.

Of this 2 methods, the cookie method is the most unreliable simply for the fact that many people disable it as a security measure. Knowing this, I have designed my login page around the session method. This is where all the problems and headaches come in.

Try as i can, the login doesn’t work. I thought it was some problems with my codes but it seems to be very unlikely. This is cos sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. If its my codes that were problematic, it should not work 100% of the time and not only 50%. It may work now, and in less than 5 mins time, it will not work anymore. Could it be a server problem? That’s what i intend to find out.

I hope i solve this prblem fast. Been up late for the past few days cos of this.

Found A wallet

Filed under: General — Mulyadi @ 1:58 am

Looks like my mum is really quite lucky these few days. Keep finding things people dropped. First was the handphone.

This morning when on her way back home from the market, mum picked up a wallet on the floor of the market’s carpark. Was very surprised to see a thick wad of $50 bills. She assumed that the person who dropped it will return to look for it so she waited a while there. True enough, the owner came back and the wallet was returned to the grateful owner.

Not Fated after All

Filed under: General — Mulyadi @ 2:34 am

Well, the phone that my mum found was returned to the rightful owner the following day. Happens that there was this guy who was asking around my mum’s department if anyone found a handphone. Mum being a very honest person gave it back to him.

Wished that there are more people like her. She lost her phone a couple of months back and no one bothered to return it to her. She lost it at her work cafeteria. The fact that someone posed to be her so as to claim the phone from the cook who found it made her even more angry. She realised that she could have dropped the phone in the cafe and went asked the cook bout it. The cook said that indeed a phone was found but someone came to collect it claiming that it was his. He must have realised that my mum dropped it and when the cook picked it up, he just went up to him to collect the phone.

Oh well.. Maybe next time then

Fated :)

Filed under: General — Mulyadi @ 10:37 pm

Mum found a handphone today aat bout lunch time. Being the honest person she is, she decided to leave it on and wait to see if anyone will call to claim back the phone.

Phone was turned on till bout 9pm. She was home then and I was playing around with the phone. The owner has still not called. I was suggesting to my mum that she should keep it since the owner has still not yet called. Mum insisted that we should wait longer. I told her that maybe we can see the sim card to determine which provider its from and contact them to help trace the owner. So i switched off the phone and took out the battery. Hmmm… its an M1 phone. So i put back the battery and switched the phone again. Guess what happened?

The sim card was locked and now needed a pin number to activate. Oppsss…. Too bad then cos we dun have the pin code so there goes any chance of the owner calling his phone again. Hahaha guess its just fated to be ours :)
