Looks like PHP it is

Filed under: General, Programming — Mulyadi @ 9:03 pm

After deciding hard with Omkar what to use to develope our site, we came to an agreement that PHP is the way to go. PHP being open source means that web hosting will be much cheaper than ColdFusion web hosting.

Managed to install my Apache web server, PHP extension and MySql server with the help of Azel and now I’m ready to start coding. Learning a new language will not be complete without the customary “Hello World” :)

Hello World

Started playing around with the codes and still think that ColdFusion is much easier to use. With cf, I have an environment where i can code in, using DreamWeaver MX. I can still use that program for PHP though but not as effectively.

One thing I do like is that the server and the PHP extensions needed to translate PHP scripts into HTML format takes up only bout 8mb compared to 100+ mb for the cf server.

Still too early too talk bout the pros and cons but will get back to that as soon as i learn more bout PHP. And if anyone needs help setting up a cf server, I’ll be glad to help :)

PHP or ColdFusion

Filed under: General, Programming — Mulyadi @ 2:03 am

Been trying to learn PHP and its so complex to me. I can’t understand what the codes mean. In fact, even configuring a database and linking my PHP to the database is tough. Everything looks foreign to me. To think that Azel said that PHP is easy to learn.

For ColdFusion, I have no problem whatsoever. Quite well verse in ColdFusion and can easily start programing the scripts. Seriously, I think that this is much much easier than PHP. Connecting to a database is no problem. One can just use a MS Access database and it just makes it so much simpler.

Only disadvantage is that ColdFusion hosts are more expensive then a PHP host since PHP is open source. What’s the use of being able to code in ColdFusion if you can’t upload it online to show the world. So no choice but to try to understand what PHP is about.

Anyone know of any local host that offers ColdFusion support? That will be much better. It needs to be Cheap too :)
